On
22 August, PHAP organized an online event to discuss the All In Diary, a
much-used resource in the sector, which for the past 12 years has been
providing humanitarian practitioners with essential, up-to-date, and
succinct guidance in a convenient format. This event featured Linda Richardson and Gill Price, co-founders
of All In Diary, as well as two users of All In Diary who shared their
experiences on using the diary in their work: Tina Bolding, Director of DisasterReady.org and Shahid Mahmood, Resilience Programme Manager, Concern Worldwide Pakistan.
Linda Richardson provided a brief background on how All In Diary was created, as well as its format and features. This was followed by Shahid Mahmood,
who shared how he has used the All In Diary in his work. He highlighted
in particular its easy-to-use structure, its conciseness, and that it
is available in a physical format that can be used regardless of the
availability of electricity or internet. Tina Bolding
shared how DisasterReady has used the All In Diary both directly as a
resource on their platform, but also as the basis for developing five
mobile courses that complement the diary pages and make the content more
accessible for an even wider audience. Gill Price provided
an overview of how the All In Diary is kept up to date through the
regular revision process. She also highlighted the main changes in the
sixth edition, including new and updated material on displacement and
migration; legal frameworks; humanitarian response in urban areas, and
cash transfer programming.

PHAP is honored to announce that, following publication of this new
edition, the management and operation of All In Diary will transition to
become part of PHAP. The mission and approach of All in Diary,
emphasizing ease of accessibility and a solid basis in cross-sector
practice, are directly in line with PHAP’s aims as an association of
practitioners seeking to continuously reinforce the effectiveness of
humanitarian work in the face of new challenges. Having worked with the
AID team throughout the year on the transition, we now look forward to
continue developing this important resource as part of PHAP’s support to
staff and volunteers, advancing learning and development on
practice-based standards and promoting ethical and professional conduct
in the humanitarian sector.
